Teacher Assistant – KVC Academy Kansas City

Pay: $18.00-$21.65 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-3:30 PM

KVC Academy is seeking compassionate and dedicated Teacher Assistants to support students with special educational and behavioral needs. In this role, you'll work alongside teachers and clinical staff to create a positive learning environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

What You'll Do

  • Support students in the classroom and during daily activities.
  • Assist teachers with instructional and behavioral interventions.
  • Help implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain documentation.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other school staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent AND meet one of the following requirements:

  • Passed the ParaPro Assessment and can provide certification; OR
  • Completed the Missouri 20-Hour Substitute Certificate Program and possess, or obtain within 60 days of hire, a valid Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate; OR
  • Completed at least 36 college credit hours and possess, or obtain within 60 days of hire, a valid Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate.

Note: Employees required to obtain a Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate must do so within 60 days of hire. Failure to obtain certification within this timeframe will result in separation of employment in accordance with Missouri requirements.

  • Ability to write routine reports and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Basic math skills, including working with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and measurements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment when carrying out written and verbal instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or coursework in education or a related field.
  • Experience working with children in educational, behavioral health, or social service settings.
  • Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, Autism Spectrum Disorder, emotional and behavioral disorders, and child development.
